Swiss Art of the 1980s from the Raguse Collection and the Aargauer Kunsthaus
The art of the 1980s reflected the social awakening of a young generation that emphatically pursued new physical and intellectual freedoms. Frequently dubbed Neue Wilde (New Wild Ones) or Junge Wilde (Young Wild Ones), the movement explored emotional and social themes such as love, angst, violence and sexuality in wildly gestural paintings, expressive sculptures, intimate drawings and revealing photographs.
Wild Thing presents Swiss art from the collection of the Aargauer Kunsthaus, drawing a line from Louis Soutter, a precursor of gestural painting in the 1940s, to the major artists of the 1980s, such as Silvia Bächli, Miriam Cahn, Josef Felix Müller and many others. The majority of the exhibits are from the collection of Mrs. Betty and Mr. Hartmut Raguse-Stauffer.
